Domain Consolidation
Filed under: General, Domain NamesDomain Consolidation gives you the ability to consolidate all your .COM and .NET domain name renewal dates into the same expiry date. So if you now have expiry dates such as Jan 12, 2010, July 9, 2009 and Sept 18, 2011, you can set all of these domains to expire on the exact same day, lets say Sept 18.
No more will you have your renewal dates tied strictly to your initial registration date. Keep an easy date to remember for all of your .COM and .NET domain name renewals so you never miss an expiry date. Make it easier for yourself to remember. Your domains will not be scattered across the entire year, but the same day.
Let’s see how this works with some visual guides:
- Log in to your Domains at Retail Account
- In the left sidebar you will see the link for “Consolidate .COM & .NET Renewals” or you can just click the link here.

- Next a page will load with a list of Available domains:

- Click the Domains you would like to Consolidate, or click the double arrows to select them all, as you will likely want all domains expiring at the same time for easier maintenance
- Next you will select the Month and Day you would like the domains to be consolidated to, agree to the Terms and click Continue

- You will now be at your Shopping Cart and complete the purchase as normal, and you are done.
Pricing is determined by the number of months adjusted per domain and has a one month minimum. Currently Public Domains are Just $1.50 per month per domain, while Private Domains are just $3.00! The price to ConsoliDate a private domain name includes the extension of the Domains By Proxy® private registration service.
Quite easily through the Control Panel you can use Domain Consolidation to remove your headaches of remembering all those expiry dates, and make it into one easy to remember day.

Unlimited Multiple Domain Hosting
Filed under: General, Web Hosting, Domain NamesThat’s right, you can have Multiple Domain Hosting and the limit is Unlimited. Multiple Web sites may be hosted within a single hosting account, sharing the same disk space and bandwidth quotas.
| Hosting Plan | Deluxe Hosting | Premium Hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Domains | ||
| External Domains | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Subdomains | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Multiple Web sites | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Alias Domains | Unlimited | Unlimited |
This is true for both our Windows Shared Hosting and Linux Shared Hosting. How does this work to your advantage? Let’s do a case study:
You Need: 5 Small Web Sites hosted with an expected average hits of 300 per day. Each site will at most be 20 MB. One site will contain video of size 50 MB.
Analysis: Those 5 websites will total 1500 hits / day. They will need storage space of 100 MB for the site, plus an additional 50 MB for the video. In total they require 150 MB of Disk Space.
Conclusion: The Deluxe plan offers 1,500 GB of Monthly Data Transfer. More than sufficient enough to handle all 5 Websites. If you have 5 sites that are more image and video based and need more bandwidth? Upgrade to the Premium Hosting and receive 3,000 GB of Monthly Data Transfer. You also receive 150 GB of Disk Space for Deluxe and 300 GB of Disk Space for the Premium Hosting. This is sufficient space to host all 5 web sites.
So how does this benefit you?: If you decided to go with our Economy Linux plan you would only be able to host 1 web site for $4.95 / month. With the deluxe plan you are able to host all 5 websites for $9.95. If you bought an economy plan for each web site you would have paid 5 x $ 4.95 = $ 24.75. You save $14.80 by going the Deluxe Hosting route.
Purchasing the Deluxe or Premium Hosting plan benefits you when you want Unlimited Multiple Domain Hosting. Visit our Shared Web Hosting page to see learn more about our Shared Hosting. Ready to purchase? Visit our Shared Web Hosting Order page.

Domain Name Management
Filed under: General, Web Hosting, Domain NamesHere are some of the Domain Name Management options you will find in your Hosting Control panel once logged in.
Multiple Domains
You can point multiple domain names to your hosting content by adding them to your hosting account. In addition, each domain can support subdomains of its own. NOTE: If you remove a domain from your account, its subdomains are also removed.
Adding a Domain
To add a domain to your hosting account, select it from the Domain drop-down list or type a domain name that is not available in the list. In the Domain Hosting Path drop-down list, specify where the content for domain resides. This can be any content directory on your hosting site. There is no limit to the number of subdirectories that you can use, but the path cannot be longer than 70 characters. Click Add Domain.
Subdomains
A subdomain is an easy way to create a memorable Web address for various parts of your site. For example, a subdomain “pics” added to the domain “coolexample.com” results in the following URL: “http://pics.coolexample.com”. Subdomains can point to any content directory on your hosting site.
Adding a Subdomain
To add a subdomain to a domain in your hosting account, click Add Sub Domain next to the appropriate domain. This can be any of the multiple domains in your hosting account. In the Sub Domain text box, enter the subdomain name. In the Path drop-down list, specify the content directory to which the subdomain should point. There is no limit to the number of subdirectories that you can use, but the path cannot be longer than 70 characters. Click Save.

How Do I Register a Domain Name
Filed under: General, Domain Names, Website DesignToday’s post comes in the form of a tutorial explaining How do I Register a Domain Name?
In my daily talks with clients who are beginning their venture of getting a web site put up online for their business, they all want to know how to register their own domain name. They want it before anyone else takes it.
Let’s see the process I show my clients to take when registering a domain name through Domains at Retail.
-
Open the Domains at Retail web site by going to http://www.domainsatretail.com. From the menu hover over “Domain Names“, and then click “Register Domains“. Alternately, you can directly go to the Domain Name Registration page.
-
Once on this screen, you will see the “Register a Domain Name” heading. Just below you have the form to type in the domain name you want.
-
Think of a name you want for the domain. For some help, read our other post about Selecting the Perfect Domain Name. Now type this into the input box. We have chosen to use “domainsatretailexample.com” to illustrate the process.
-
Click “Search“
-
You will now be taken to one of two screens: “DOMAINSATRETAILEXAMPLE.COM is available” or “DOMAINSATRETAILEXAMPLE.COM is already taken“. In our case we are taken to the first option, as no one has registered this domain at the time we are creating this tutorial. To see an example of a domain name that is already taken, try and put in a popular domain name like Google.com.
-
Since our DOMAINSATRETAILEXAMPLE.COM is selected, we scroll down and click “Continue”.
-
You will be notified of a great savings to register multiple TLD extensions (.org, .biz, .info) of the Domain Name. Registering multiple TLD extensions ensures no one later registers them in an attempt to lure visitors that are looking for your web site.
-
Click “Add these to my order“, as we dont want cybersquatters later gaining from our hard earned efforts.
-
You are then taken to a screen to provide your Domain Registration Information. Three options are given (note our customer #’s have been blacked out):

-
Make this purchase under my current Domains at Retail account #XXXXXXX
-
Login to an existing account (this will also populate your registration information)
-
I would like to create a new Domains at Retail account.
-
-
As a first time customer, we will select the third option. You must complete the required Domain Registration Information, including First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Company Name and Address Information.
-
Click “Continue“.
-
Here we now have our new account
-
Click “Continue“
-
You are now taken to the “Registration and Checkout Options” page. Note, by default domain names are set for registering for 2 years. We recommend 2 years or more for registrations, as to search engine spiders it gives the perception your site will be around for longer, thus giving a better ranking.
-
We are only looking to register the domain names we have selected, so we leave “Select Type of Registration” to Standard, and “Select Checkout Preference” to “No thanks. I’m ready to checkout.”
-
Click “Continue“.
-
Now you get to “Review your Shopping Cart“
-
Step 1 Shows you the details of your order.
-
Step 2 lets you select how you would like to pay.
-
Step 3 is important. You should read the Domain Registration Agreement and Universal Terms of Service. If you agree to them, then and only then, select the checkboxes.
-
Click “Checkout Now“
-
You are now taken to the Log In or Create Account page. Here I log in to my account, but for new customers you would create your account and password here.
-
Billing Information page - complete your billing information including your credit card info, or your method of payment for your domain name purchase.
-
Click “Checkout Now“
-
We then ask you for a Captcha code to verify you are human. After you verify the captcha code, you are taken to the final screen and your domain name is registered.

If you want to only register the single domain name, you can click the link where it says “No Thanks. Continue to checkout…“. Reminder: You will not be offered the same great package again if you say no.

Congratulations, you have now purchased your domain name and are one step closer to branding your identity on the internet!
What’s next? Purchase domain name hosting to host your web site files. Alternately, you can purchase Web Site Tonight which provides hosting and an online WYSIWYG editor to build your web site, with free templates.
Wish you all the luck in developing your online presence, and hope you enjoyed our tutorial on “How Do I register a domain name.”
